Rodney McGruder - Free Men's Basketball Prediction: Texas Tech vs Kansas State

After a 1-3 start in Big 12 play, Kansas State Wildcats seemed to turn a corner when it rattled off three straight victories to climb above .500.

However, the Wildcats then promptly lost back-to-back games and were on the verge of losing another after trailing to Texas A&M at halftime on Saturday.

But Kansas State recovered to earn a 64-53 win, and now have a great chance to improve its record against Texas Tech Red Raiders, the conference's only winless team.

The Red Raiders lost 69-47 in the first meeting on Jan. 25 in Lubbock.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Wildcats listed as 17½-point favorites versus the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-15): Texas Tech is off to its worst Big 12 start since 2000, and it's no secret why they're struggling. The Red Raiders have reached the 60-point mark just eight times in 10 conference games and average 17.3 turnovers. Outside of Jordan Tolbert, who averages a team-best 11.9 points, no other Red Raiders player scores in double figures. Texas Tech has lost five straight games by 13 or more, including Saturday's 74-57 loss at Texas. In eight true road games, the Red Raiders have won just one of them — a 61-54 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Dec. 1.

Kansas State Wildcats (16-6): Will Spradling scored a career-high 19 points against Texas A&M, a much-needed boost to a Wildcats offense that had been lacking consistent production outside of junior guard Rodney McGruder. In his previous four games, Spradling, a sophomore, had scored a combined 22 points on 3-of-26 shooting, the worst slump of his young career. Nonetheless, if he can start converting 3-pointers regularly — he made 4-of-5 attempts on Saturday — the Wildcats might be able to bust out of a recent offensive funk that has seen them score 70 or less in five straight games.

1. Texas Tech has lost four straight to the Wildcats.

2. Kansas State has forced 10 or more turnovers in every game this season.

3. McGruder, who has been K-State’s leading scorer in nine of its last 12 games, ranks fourth in Big 12 scoring at 17.9 points per game.

BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Wildcats 76, Red Raiders 54.
