Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Bulldogs listed as 12½-point favorites versus the Tigers.
Auburn Tigers (13-9): Auburn's 3-point shooting woes (31 percent, 10th in conference) have continued in the last three games. In losses to Arkansas and Tennessee and a win over Georgia, the Tigers made just 12 of 44 (27 percent) from behind the arc. The Tigers are 11th in the SEC in free throw percentage (66 percent), but were excellent in the win over Georgia. Led by Varez Ward (12 of 12), Auburn hit 25 of 31 (80 percent) from the charity stripe.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (17-5): The No. 19 Bulldogs are one of the SEC's worst teams in defending field goals (11th at 42%) and 3-pointers (11th at 34%). During a recent 2-2 stretch, the Bulldogs have allowed opponents to shoot 47 percent on both twos and threes. The hosts could get a bit of reprieve Saturday as Auburn comes in not only at the bottom in 3-point percentage, but also in field goal percentage (10th at 41 percent). Arnett Moultrie, Dee Bost and Rodney Hood are averaging a combined 44 points, 60 percent of Mississippi State's scoring.
1. The last time the teams met in Starkville in January, 2011, Mississippi State rolled, 85-66 as Renardo Sidney had 15 points and Jalen Steele chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
2. Auburn is 0-4 in consecutive road games, losing by an average margin of 13.7 points.
3. After scoring a total of 11 points on just four made field goals in the previous three games, senior guard Brian Bryant had 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the Bulldogs’ loss to Florida.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Bulldogs 70, Tigers 61.
